Long Term Care

Last updated: October 7, 2015

What Is Long-Term Care?

Long-term care is the help you may need if you are unable to care for yourself because of a prolonged illness or disability. People often think of long-term care as taking place in a nursing home. In fact, the term refers to a variety of situations and services, including home health care, adult day care, and nursing facilities.

Long-term care differs from traditional medical care. While medical care services rehabilitate or correct certain medical problems, long-term care services help a person maintain his or her lifestyle.
